Anyone can bring books to us - we will be hosting National Donation Days across most of our storage sites throughout the academic year 2011/2012. Register to get more information about this scheme. Book collections and Donation Days are coordinated by our ever increasing band of student volunteers, who then sort all the books received to ensure we’re sending only the best quality and most relevant ones out to East Africa. Those that don’t fit the bill will be sold to raise funds for shipping the good stuff. As a last resort we will recycle what’s left – we never landfill anything. So donate your books to READ! And we’ll do our very best to find them a good home.
As a thank you, we offer discount vouchers for purchasing new books and assembly presentations to those schools who have donated books to us. This is a chance for our volunteers to visit your school and let your students know what we plan to do with their books. To find out more, click here or email us.
We now have Book Bins across Lambeth in partnership with Veolia Environmental Services!
Cllr Lorna Campbell, Lambeth Council’s cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “This is a fantastic scheme and I’m delighted it’s launching in Lambeth. It’s sometimes easy to take books for granted but you should never throw them away. By taking books that you no longer want to one of the book recycling points in the borough you will be directly helping to improve the lives of children in Tanzania.”

The scheme has already been piloted in the nearby City of Westminster, where over 12,500 books were collected within the first six months. Veolia and READ International are working together to identify further opportunities to introduce the scheme to local authorities across the capital and beyond.

Although we usually work with secondary schools we will be working with both primary AND secondary ISA schools this year. Please click on the logo below to find out more about how your ISA school can seize this unique opportunity to get involved in an exciting initiative which will offer a grand prize to the school who does the best.
